How To Overcome The Fear Of Failure

how to overcome the fear of failure

Being afraid of failure is common and it resides in each and every one of us. Regardless if you are a CEO of a company, an entrepreneur, a doctor or a student, that fear sits in our mind and feeds off our potential.

In order for us to excel more than where we are, to ignite and explode our potential and to be phenomenal, it requires us to step out of our comfort zone.

However for the most part, that very act of stepping out and facing the unknown sends signals and uncertainties into our mind. Uncertainties then led to overthinking – much of which are ‘what ifs’

“What if I couldn’t make it?”

“What if I lose everything?”

“What if it’s not meant for me?”

“What if I’m not good enough?”

“What if there’s no turning back?”

Sounds familiar?

Let me tell you this.

Never ever a single achiever succeeds because he or she hasn’t failed.

It is the very choice they made to overcome their fears that led them to greatness.

Our mind, just like our muscles, it gets stronger the more we reconditioned it.

Mind conditioning is a very powerful strategy and it will get you from where you are now to where you want to be in life.

1. Shift your perspective and re-frame your goals

Instead of looking at failure as total lost, expand your viewpoint and anticipate any possible ‘failing’ as a way of learning something new.

Surely, what is life if it’s not a progressive journey of continuous learning?

A target could be to “Earn a profit of at least $5,000 for a start of a newly launch product” and a goal should derive from how you can learn something out of it like “What does it take to launch a successful product?”. This way, you’ll know you’re never entirely failing because whatever you do, you are bound to learn something new.

2. Simplify the task at hand

Often times, when we set out for anything new, we fail to plan.

We rush into doing something that comes into mind without considering effort, time and results.

You don’t have to go all in and have a spread sheet all planned out. Instead, keep it simple.

Simplify the tasks at hand and break down the process needed.

Surely, it takes patience and some trials at times. Don’t let that deter you. If at any point it doesn’t work out, review, take the necessary steps needed and resolve it.

3. Know that failures are inevitable

Failing is part of us and it is a necessary process we all have to go through.

What did it took for you as a baby to learn how to walk? — Falling countless times but what was it so different now that you are all grown up? When you were a baby, you couldn’t care less about what others think of you. See the picture now?

If you want to push through in life and succeed, you’re bound to fail but a true champion is the one who never quits.
