10 Easy Steps to Permitting the Past
Time is running out and the past is still behind us now. In the times we have left behind, there are many trials and tribulations that we go through in life; we learn from our mistakes and move on. However, there are times when we have in the past that we just can’t stop. We are brought down, we are made emotional and we cry thinking of things that should never have happened to us.

However, it is not the past that defines us. As psychologist Carl Jung states:

“I was not the one who fell. I am what I choose to be. ”

We all choose to be what we want and want and we should not regret things that went wrong in the past as they just made our shoulders heavy and held us to a happy life.

So how can you stop the past? Here are 10 steps to try:

  1. Know That Time To Move On
The hardest part of quitting the past is trying to make decisions to move on.

Yes, it is very difficult to make new decisions that can overcome our mistakes in life but you must always remember that you have a future to share.

You have already paid for the past and if that does not work for you, you need to see that it is time to move on.

  1. Make a To-Do List
Life does not always give you a second chance. However, all you can do is make a list of things you would have done differently if you had gone back in time and done it again.

Making this list will help you learn from your mistakes while also giving ideas on what things should have been done right. You also have the ability to plan things and this will definitely help you shape your future goals in life.

  1. Believe in You
Pain and suffering are part of everyone’s life and if you believe in yourself, you will overcome grief faster than anyone else. All you have to do is make sure you know what you are doing and it won’t let you hold back from forgetting the past.

When you start to believe in yourself, you have a positive attitude and these feelings will help you to cover up the mistakes and bad memories that bother you.

  1. Meditate
If you are frustrated and depressed because of past experiences and nothing works to change your feelings about it, you need to start meditating.

Find peace, stay calm and breathe for a long time. By meditating, you adjust yourself to a busy and fast-paced world of noise. You keep them away from distractions and make yourself comfortable by meditating.

  1. Live for now
If you do not enjoy the life you are living, your future will surely be bleak. You do not have to feel guilty about what happened and you need to live right now. What has been done is done and there is no going back.

Take a hike to the mountains with your friends or dance, sing and do whatever you like. It gives you life and empowers you to focus on the things you need to do right now.

  1. Forget the Fear
If you have failed in the past, it is possible to develop a sense of fear in you. If you can’t overcome your fear of failure and wrongdoing, you will worry and things will not work out.

Be challenging and forget the fear. Think about the things you are afraid to do and try to do one thing at a time and overcome the fear. If it is still difficult, find someone who you believe will help you overcome your fears.

  1. Don’t Forget Your Principles and Standards
If you are going to do better in life, you need to stick to your morals and your values. There is no denying that bad experiences in life increase the sense of change in us and the changes are not always good.

Stick to your own beliefs and conduct in order to build self-confidence and pride. This plays a major role in building a positive outlook on your life.

  1. Forgive
Mistakes do happen but controlling yourself and remembering the same thing over and over again will not help anyone.

If you have made a mistake, apologize, comfort, and forgive. If it is people close to you who have hurt you in the past and you just can’t stop it, acknowledge the fact that they are the ones you trusted. You need to learn to forgive and to move forward toward happiness.

  1. Let go of anger and resentment
Anger and rage are dangerous. These feelings will keep you stuck in the past. They will knock you down and hurt you badly.

Letting go of resentment will help you to develop a positive attitude and you may want to hit the wall or pillow, or scream; do it. Release your anger and frustration. It may take some time, but after you let go of resentment and anger, you will begin to feel new.

  1. Know That You Have Done The Best You Can Do
Ideas shape our emotions and actions. How you respond to what you have done in the past will help you decide on your present and your future.

If you feel guilty or regret things you did better, be careful to do what you could have done right away. If you accept the truth, you will also learn that your efforts have never been in vain. This will keep you motivated to develop and prosper in the future.
