About ten years ago when I was studying for a college degree, I was working as a student at the University’s Natural History Museum. One day while I was working in the cash register of a gift shop, I saw an elderly couple come in with a little girl in a wheelchair.
I said that when I looked closely at the girl, I saw that she was almost sitting in her chair. Then I realized that he had no arms or legs, only his head, neck and body. She was wearing a white dress with red dots.
As the couple wheeled him down I was looking down at the register. I turned my head to the girl and gave her an eye. As I took the money from her grandparents, I looked back at the girl, who was giving me a cutting smile, the biggest I had ever seen. Suddenly her disability was gone and what I saw was this beautiful girl, her smile melted me and almost instantly gave me a whole new idea of what life is all about. He took me to a poor college student, who was unhappy and brought me to his country; a world of smiles, love and warmth.
That happened ten years ago. I am a successful businessman now and whenever I get down I think about the problems of the world, I think about that little girl and the wonderful lesson about the life she taught me.
