One day Akbar asked his superiors if they could tell him the difference between true and false in three words or less. The yards look confused, but get no answer. Eventually the emperor turned to Birbal. ‘Four fingers,’ said Birbal. The governor was confused, but Birbal explained in detail. ‘That’s the difference between true and false, Sir. Everything you see with your eyes is real. But what you hear with your ears may or may not be true. More often than not, it can be a lie. ‘But Akbar did not get the point of’ four fingers. ‘ Birbal replied – ‘The distance between a person’s eyes and ears is four fingers wide.’
The moral of the story is to trust in your own eyes and nothing else.
