Innovation and innovation drive business growth, but there is one thing about growth and change that business owners and entrepreneurs often overlook. It’s not the most fun or glorious part, but when you see and accept it, the benefits are huge. This is especially important for self-employed owners when there is a slight difference between you and your business. When your success level is commensurate with how well you yourself have progressed. I call it the Growth Jet Lag, and when you know how to use it, you set yourself up for eternal success.
An important condition for change
The past few months have been a time of great transition and adaptation. For others, myself, it was a time of incredible clarity. This sharp insight and focus brings about change. A direct change, but change anyway.
For some, it was about wandering or appearing. Maybe you made changes in your performance or in the services you provide. Maybe you should have renewed yourself or found your way back to a strong financial position. While these changes may have been born out of necessity, they are still a good step forward.
It makes sense that if you do what needs to be done, it will pay off in the end. But have you noticed that there seems to be a gap between performance and profit?
You can be more confident that you are on the right track, but you are still waiting for the results. You are waiting for people to see the changes you have made. You are waiting for the job that will come in. You are waiting, and it is frustrating, because you have done the hard work of finding clarity and making changes. Now what does it offer?

A waiting game
I have seen many entrepreneurs and self-employed business owners in this time of unexpected change articulate their clear product message. Some are well-advertised in their business and create a clear path forward. Many business owners have made the necessary changes to their businesses and branding in order to stay afloat so that they can move forward. Even in difficult times.
Then they waited. They are waiting for more clients to show up. They are waiting for the world to notice. They wait for all the changes they have made to make a difference. They waited because of a real situation called the Growth Jet Lag. Without knowing what Growth Jet Lag is and what is happening, too many people will be disappointed with the delayed results. And the last thing I want is for anyone to give up after working hard to make positive changes.
The separation of growth jets has evolved into change
Growth Jet Lag is what happens between you that makes changes in your life and your business and people actually see it. Some time after you change, redo, or make changes, it will look like no one is watching. In fact, they haven’t caught it yet.
You can filter it as an algorithm. A universal algorithm that scans the globe. How many times will it have to go through a scan or scan before it can download all the small changes?
When I started my podcast several years ago, someone gave me some wise advice to keep releasing episodes consistently. Same day and same time every week. Sticking to a fixed day and time of the week makes it easy with the iTunes algorithm to find new episodes.
It’s the same here. Some time unknown after making changes or gaining clarity, you just need to keep going. It fits. Continue until there is enough passing through the algorithm if you like, to be seen. Putting Growth Jet Lag on the changes you make in business and health will motivate you to stay until the results start.
Accepting change takes time
There are many examples from personal life that illustrate the truth of his business. Think of a time when someone lost trust in you. They can make changes in their lives so that they can trust them again. They can swear that they will never break your trust. But it will still take time and consistent behavior before you can accept and rebuild trust. It’s not like someone can just shout, “Okay, I’ve changed!” and everyone around you will believe it.
I remember when I was divorced many years ago, receiving good advice from a medical doctor about telling our three children. He said, “Now remember, you and your wife know this is coming a long time. You know a lot about problems. For your children, they just get it. Give them time to catch up. ”Such important advice.

Giving your clients a chance to catch up
Your potential customers need that same kindness. The same chance of catching up. When you make business changes, you get the clarity, or pivot, it will take time for the world around you to reach. How long will they need? There is no magic number, but in my experience it is usually 3-6 months. Also, there is no set time here. Based on years of training for small business owners. My hope is that by knowing this and expecting this to happen, you will have the patience to persevere.
I know it can seem like a lifetime when you are very excited about moving forward. You have done the right thing. You have made appropriate changes. You have received clarification on the job you want to do and who you want to serve.
That is very good, and it is the most important work you can do. Now you have to wait a little longer and maybe longer for people to catch up. All that’s left is to keep going.
Don’t be discouraged by the business you love if the changes you’ve made are not visible right now. Wait for the world to come together instead. You’ll be glad you did.
