How Can You Find More Purpose in Your Life?

Whether you realize it or not, your brain is currently using a map. Mind maps are powerful, but they are usually hidden, guiding your actions whenever you make a decision, face a challenge or set a goal. Your mind map is the one that helps you identify the most useful opportunities, grab the most important resources and plan the best way towards your goals.

However, not all mind maps are created equal. If the mind map you use is lacking in “punctuation marks,” it is incomplete, inaccurate, and misleading. Descriptive tags are the things in your life that are important to you – career advancement, a new business, your child’s admission to the school you want, a better life and more.

If you currently find that your work has little purpose, your obstacles are insurmountable or your goals are unattainable, you may need to create your own mind map.

In my research, I have found that there are many common mistakes we make when we draw mind maps that guide our daily decisions and actions. Sometimes we have not highlighted enough definitions. Sometimes we highlight what is wrong and choose a path that is full of evil rather than the things we truly care about. And often, we map out escape routes before we even begin looking for ways to get by.

Here are three ways you can improve your mind map:

  1. Highlight your actual description tags.
The best mind map has methods that lead to realistic goals. But we cannot plan those paths until we identify and map out the things in life that are most important to us. Think hard about what you find most appealing about your day, what brings you happiness, and what you hope to accomplish. If you could wave a magic wand, what one thing could you change about your life? These questions will help you find your true meaning symbols.
  2. Rearrange your mind map.
Every mind map has a focus area that explains where most of your brain resources will be distributed. Rearrange this map around the tags you identified in the first step. Shift your mindset to focus on the area of your life that you want to change, whether it increases your income, improves your writing skills or builds stronger connections between people.
  3. Map of success routes before escape routes.
What you focus on becomes your reality. If you focus on avoiding the paths to failure, you will completely miss the road to success.
