This is the story of two brothers. Another was a drug addict and an alcoholic who regularly beat his family. One was a very successful businessman who was well-respected in the community and had a fine family. Some people wanted to find out why two siblings from the same parents, who were raised in the same area, might be so different.
The first one was asked, “How did you do what you did? You’re a drug addict, you’re an alcoholic, and you beat your family. What motivates you?” And he said, My father. They asked, “What about your father?” The response was, “My father was a drug addict, drunk and beating his family. What do you expect me to be? That’s what I am.”
They approached a brother who was doing well and asked him the same question. “How come you did everything right? What is your source of motivation?” And guess what? “My father. When I was a little boy, I used to see my dad drunk and doing all the wrong things. I made up my mind, that’s not what I wanted to be.”
They both found their strength and inspiration in the same source, but one misused it and the other misused …
Life continues to teach us from a variety of circumstances but it is up to us what we want to learn. The rule is simple, “Good mind, get good!”
